How can you serve God’s church in a majority Muslim Context?

Can you support the work of God in Pakistan? Murree Christian School is a small boarding school, in the beautiful foothills of the Himalayas in North Pakistan.  Our mission school enables foreigner and national mission workers to minister throughout this needy country, knowing their children are being educated, nurtured and discipled in a Christian community.  We prepare students for GCSE and A Level exams.
From August 2019, we need:
  • those with a heart for young people, who will care for and disciple students from ages 9-18, serving as their dorm parent.
  • graduates/teachers willing to teach English, History/Geography, Science, Maths, Spanish, Religious Studies, Music
  • An Administrative assistant/ secretary
Please be in contact as soon as possible as the visa process takes several months from appointment.

Though most of our staff come as mission personnel with personal support, we offer free accommodation and will consider giving a local allowance to anyone appointed to teach core subjects to GCSE and A Level or with a major dorm parenting role.  Our classes are very small, so we will also consider graduates with no teaching experience keen to see whether teaching is for them.  The opportunity is also ideal for early or recently retired teachers.
Applicants must be mature Christians who enjoy sharing life with children and/or teenagers and who would value the opportunity to nurture and disciple them.
We do also value to the help of assistants in the dorms and in the classroom and consider applicants who can only offer to come from one semester, but they will be volunteers rather than staff and not receive an allowance.  Minimum age is 18.
Please contact Dagmar Baron on principal@mcs.org.pk  and look on www.mcs.org.pk  to find out more.

A volunteer with Key Stage 1 experience is needed to assist with a week of co-operative and creative learning for children of cross-cultural workers who are usually home schooled. Participants will represent several nationalities and not all have English as a first language, so the programme focus is on practical, creative and social activities rather than on core academic subjects. Besides the Key Stage 1 class there will be a Key Stage 2 class.

Leader of the project: Moira, an OMF worker - SVN volunteers have worked with her many times and she looks after us extremely well!

Location for accommodation and activities:  the OMF centre in Chiang Mai.

Date of the Home School Week: 25th February to 1st March 2019.

Theme: Rainforests.

Length of project: about 10 days to allow for orientation and preparation.

Travel, accommodation and expenses costs: around £1000. The SVN Bursary Fund applies to this project

RWANDA PROJECT
It is hoped that a team of three or four people will go to Kigali to continue
the great work started by the team last year. So far, Ann Williams (lead) and
Sue Claydon are able to commit to this, so we are looking for one or two more to
join us.
We have been asked to concentrate on English but also to help encourage and
advise on reading in all age groups (even using picture books in preschool
classes where the language is mainly Kinyarwandan, although teachers speak
English) and the provision of school libraries in one or two schools.
Provisional dates for the visit are May 10th to 24th and the total cost would be
in the region of £1000, depending on flight costs.
For more details please contact svnprojects@googlemail.com.

Proposed project to EMMANUEL CHRISTIAN SCHOOL, Manipur, India,
Feb/March 2019
Two people are required to train teachers in teaching Mathematics and Science and a third would be a valuable addition to review current practice, and train teachers in teaching English.
The school of 600 pupils aged 3-16 years of age, some of whom are boarders with 22 teaching staff, is situated in the beautiful Sardar Hills. It therefore benefits from a cooler climate than elsewhere in India. The cost will be about £1200 and there is a Bursary Fund available to help with cost.

Mozambique with Anchor Education Feb 26th-March 6th 2017
Margaret Stockwell will be leading a team to Lichinga, Mozambique in March 2017. One SVN volunteer will be working with the young people. Two volunteers are needed to work with the younger children whilst their parents attend a home school conference. The conference is for three days. The programme is flexible and could include art, crafts, music, drama, incorporating a Bible theme. It should be possible to visit Lake Malawi after the conference.
Cost approx. £900

Uganda with Watchmen International October 2017
Shirley Lickfold will be leading a team to Kasese in south western Uganda during the first two weeks of October 2017. Five schools have been set up by Watchmen International, initially for orphan children who would otherwise have no education. The schools are for primary and early years. A team of 4 to 6 volunteers is needed. Volunteers will fly to Kampala and then travel by bus to Kasese, which is about an 8 hour journey. There is good guest house accommodation.
Volunteers will need a valid yellow fever certificate.
Cost approx. £1000.

Central Asia Home Schooling
A family serving in a challenging Central Asian country have requested help with home schooling for their two boys aged 11 and 9. There is a younger brother, aged 4, but his needs can be met by parents. Initially the request was for support for three months or more, but as SVN volunteers usually undertake shorter term projects we are asking for a number of volunteers to support the family, each working for around 4 weeks. The family have lived and worked in development for over 10 years in relative peace.

Longer Term Opportunities
SVN is sometimes asked if we are able to find teachers for longer term opportunities overseas. Whilst we do not advertise these on our opportunities sheet as we aim to support teachers by training and mentoring, we will pass on details to any SVN volunteers who may interested in teaching overseas.
Email: svnetprojects@gmail.com

Please will you prayerfully consider if you should be applying for any of these projects.
Bursary funding from SVN may be applied for on request.
