JUBILEE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL CONAKRY GUINEA
For about 2 weeks in early 2019.
We are looking for two secondary teachers to join two primary teachers for this project.
SVN member Jean Brims has visited Jubilee school twice. The school has now requested a visit by SVN volunteers. Jean worked with primary teachers and introduced them to Jolly Phonics reading and writing programme. The head teacher has requested follow up training in reading and writing skills for primary teachers and opportunities to explore “learning by doing.” The teaching of creative activities, including art is also requested.
For secondary teachers EFL, keeping and using a library and practical science has been requested. The development of library skills could be developed for both primary and secondary pupils. There is also a request for something on phonics for secondary pupils who need this. After an introduction to basics they could go on to Touch Type, Read and Spell as a follow on. This was done on the first visit and was subsequently put into practice.
It would be good if there was someone with a science background who can think outside the box and could talk with and go with a science teacher to look for items which can be sourced locally to do some of the experiments in the curriculum. e.g. wires etc to make up a circuit boards. Volunteers would need to work as a team and flexibility is essential.
Accommodation will be arranged and will be basic but clean- no flushing toilets, bucket showers. It may be necessary to share rooms.
Costs: approx £1200 depending on air fares
There is a Bursary Fund available to help with costs
