More SVN volunteers are needed to mentor teachers online at City Gates Academy in Manila in the Philippines, starting this September.
Some of the teachers have been at the nursery and primary school for a few years and others are just starting as the school is now allowed to operate in person. They have all been through Government training for the theory of rote learning.
The head teacher, Lynette Orange (from Rugby in England), seeks to train them to use a child-centred activity approach. Each teacher needs a lot of one to one support and encouragement, which we at SVN could give through fortnightly early morning online sessions. Lynette and the SVN volunteers will also be supporting one another as we start this exciting new project from the comfort of our own homes.
Could this be how God wants you to use some of your time to help these teachers? There are a few checks to be made, such as a DBS check and if you haven’t done a project for SVN in the last few years, two references to be given.
For more details, contact Jane Caine.
